The ‘R&D Center of Excellence for Integrated Microsystems’ project was inaugurated on July 1st, 2007 as one of the ‘Formation of Innovation Center for Fusion of Advanced Technologies’. Special coordination funds for promoting science and technology were provided by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology program after one year of feasibility study with the cooperation of many companies. Tohoku University took a leadership role for this project and utilized the technology and information in the microsystem research we had accumulated, the practical application by cooperation with various companies and achievement of human resource development in its adoption.

Through this program, we will carry on basic research of advanced integrated fields and organically promote practical application research for creating innovation, as well as advance regional partnerships with different perspectives.  It will lead to attaining a center where innovations can be achieved and develop substantial human resources through research and development activities.  Tohoku University will input concerted effort to tackle this program’s promotion, hoping it to be one contribution for the innovation of scientific technology systems in our country.

We hope that cooperation in a variety of ways will be strengthened, and this ‘R&D Center of Excellence for Integrated Microsystems’ will be utilized widely by various intellectuals.
